According to Sports Medicine in a review article published in 2007, almost 47.7% of ski injuries in children and adolescents are knee sprains and ACL tears. The researchers reported that musculoskeletal immaturity is also a frequent culprit in ski injuries among this age group, accounting for 15% of the total number of injuries, which said to range between 3.9 and 9.1 injuries per 1000 skier days.
Improving skill is a key factor in reducing injuries in young skiers, the researchers said. they recommended the proper fitting of equipments for the skiers height, weight, experience level, and boot size, and instruction that focuses on collision avoidance, helmet use, and learning how to fall properly to minimize lower extremity trauma.
